A film with no video file
This chapter’s film is a small JavaScript program, like the chapters before it. Its festival confetti and falling birch leaves are drawn live by the code. The sound effects are synthesised in the browser. The two recorded tracks are the narration, in his own cloned voice for Vietnamese, and the score.

Illustrations are an artistic re-imagining, not historical photographs. Names, dates and events come only from his memoir. The young man is drawn from his 1972 student-card photo; Professor Kulikov and the young woman at the festival are imagined from the text and not portraits. Public figures at the festival are shown only as a distant crowd and stage.
