A film with no video file
This chapter's film is a small JavaScript program, like the chapters before it. Every frame is drawn live on a canvas from paper cut-outs, eight painted backdrops and two real family artifacts, the 1951 wedding photograph and the forged travel pass, taped into the film. The sound effects are synthesised in the browser. The two recorded tracks are the narration and the score.

Illustrations are an artistic re-imagining, not historical photographs. Names, dates and events come only from his memoir. Trần Sa and mẹ are drawn from their real 1951 wedding photograph; bác Tín and chú Sơ from family photos; cậu Năm Phấn, bà ngoại and the dì are imagined from the text. The Vĩnh Trinh victims are remembered only through the memorial.
